10,000 STRONG AGAINST PELOSI-CARE

Responding to Minnesota Representative Michelle Bachmann’s call, thousands of concerned citizens—including those from the Heartland—descended upon our nation’s Capitol, to protest a government takeover of health care. Consider it a friendly reminder for Congress; the will of the people has not changed just because they’re back in session. Hi friends I’m Scott Hennen, Chairman of the Common Sense Club sounding off. In a minute, “Kill the Bill:” more demonstrable rejection before the health care showdown, in today’s Common Sense Commentary!

It may be November, but yesterday’s powerful display of protest was reminiscent of August. Lead by Michele Bachman’s unwavering appeal for citizen involvement, a sea of protesters packed into the west lawn of the Capitol yesterday, waving American flags and displaying homemade signs, in a massive demonstration against the intrusive policies of this administration. The New York Times concedes it was the largest rally against the President’s agenda since he took office…before proceeding to characterize the attendees as rowdy gun-toting radicals. Nonetheless, the message echoed throughout the Halls of Congress: people from across the nation DO NOT want socialized healthcare. Testifying to the size and spirit of the crowd is Julie Sorenson, who traveled all the way from Moorhead, Minnesota just to have her voice heard:

LISTEN

“They’re chanting, ‘Naaaancy…Naaancy…’ and just now they as we were walking up here they were chanting ‘kill the bill…kill the bill’. [There’s] lots of great flags…oh man, it’s a glorious moment to be here, and to be a citizen, and to be able to be a part of this.”

How neat is that? And Julie was just one among 10,000! How’s that for grassroots? Time will tell if this demonstration—and the countless others like it— have made a difference, as lawmakers prepare for the historic House vote on Saturday. But at the very least, it’s a clear signal to Congress that the sleeping giant is still awake, and its keeping score: vote for Pelosi-care at your own political peril. So Common Sense kudos to Julie, Michele Bachman, and everyone else in attendance. They’ve heard us…we’ll soon find out if they listened.
