PRESIDENTIAL LEADERSHIP: WHOSE SIDE IS HE ON?

First it was the stimulus. Then, tax-and-cap legislation. Next came an unyielding push for nationalized healthcare, followed by amateur-hour dithering in the War on Terror. In spite of his approval numbers falling through the floor at a rate we haven’t seen in the past 50 years, President Obama continues to polarize the nation with his radical liberal agenda, presented in condescending derision for anyone who dares challenge him. All of it leads me to sometimes wonder: whose side is this guy on? Hi friends, I’m Scott Hennen, Chairman of the Common Sense Club sounding off. In a minute, we explore that unfortunate question, in today’s Common Sense Commentary!

It’s a difficult question, and it’s necessary for us to challenge our own concepts of paranoia versus patriotism: is the Obama Administration well-meaning in their policies for the United States, or are they bent on fundamentally transforming this country into a socialist society, with the abolition of our basic, treasured freedoms as the desired end goal? We knew who this guy was before the election. He was a community organizer, schooled in the tenets of Saul Alinsky with a liberal voting record and no executive experience. Nonetheless, he won decidedly. Now, he’s surrounded himself with academic globalists who appear hell-bent to restructure the makeup of our political system in favor of a European-style socialist democracy. The common theme through all of this seems to be a contempt for the basic principles that makes our country great; in that regard, his leadership does appear un-American. But questioning the President of the United State’s personal motives simply because we don’t agree with his policies may also be un-American…so which is it? Are we being hyper-partisan conspiracy-theorists, unwilling to give this hope and change thing a fair shake, or are we acting as the Paul Reveres of society, warning the people to wake up before this nation no longer resembles itself?

At this point, I hesitate to believe that the President is purposefully acting against our own best interests. I remember how the left demonized President Bush, asking the same question but in much nastier tones. They labeled him a fascist because they disagreed with him; I think Common Sense faithful have more class then to do the same with this President. Only time will tell if it’s true.
