PELOSI SHRUGS OFF CONSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Oh that pesky Constitution of ours. Its wisdom…its prophetic insight… its clear protective mechanisms, designed to safeguard us from a massive, unchecked government…it can be so irritating sometimes, particularly if you’re the House Speaker, trying to hammer through monstrous Statist policies. Hi friends, I’m Scott Hennen, Chairman of the Common Sense Club sounding off. In a minute, “we are serious:” Pelosi’s arrogant dismissal of a critical question, in today’s Common Sense Commentary!

In a time when objective reporting is almost completely dead…when mainstream pundits and so-called “serious journalists” testify to the feelings coming up their legs instead of the rampant political corruption emanating from the left (ACORN anyone?), it’s truly rare to hear someone ask this White House an essential question. But last week, someone did just that, as a CNS.com reporter challenged Speaker Pelosi on an issue that’s on the minds of all Common Sense faithful. Here’s the exchange:

LISTEN

CNSNews.com: “Where specifically does the Constitution authorize Congress to force Americans to purchase a particular good or service such as health insurance?”
Pelosi: “Are you serious? Are you serious?”
CNSNews.com: “Yes, yes I am.”

Sound like an outrageous question? Not to your Chairman, and not to millions of other Americans, who grow precipitously wary of the economic and social implications of placing 1/6th of the US economy under the Fed’s control. It is a serious question. But to the Washington elite, it’s downright unbelievable that someone would question their pompous moral and legal authority.

And on an unfortunate note, I think she’s being sincere. Since Obama’s election, the Press has refused to approach our lawmakers with legitimate questions that could expose the logical consequences of their legislative decisions. Sure, you won’t find any specific verbiage “forcing” Americans to buy health insurance in their 1,500 page proposal—clearly an Unconstitutional demand—but just like every other piece of legislation this Congress has passed, the terminology codified in their bill will be interpreted to do just that. They won’t force you to buy it, but they will force your employer to cover you, creating a workforce dependent on the government and destroying the insurance industry in the process. I have another serious question for Madame Speaker: when did a government “for the People” turn into a network of unscrupulous gangsters?
